Panelist: Vox Populi
Terrill is pleased to be a panelist at the upcoming discussion Dismantle This! happening at Vox Populi, April 23 from 6:00-7:45 pm
Dismantle This! is a discussion centered around and for the people who do the day-to-day labor of Philadelphia’s art institutions. In a panel moderated by Katie Rauth, current and recent interns, Sarah Kim, Summer Sloane-Britt, and Terrill Warrenburg discuss and thoughtfully critique internships, modalities of care, and exploitation rooted in their experiences working in organizations around the city. The conversation is an opportunity for the panelists and attendees to share their experiences of racism, sexism, classism, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of oppression underpinning our arts institutions. Only by listening to individuals at the base of our institutions can we understand how the art world truly treats its participants, whether positively or negatively. The discussion will conclude with collectively brainstorming actionable steps to create concrete institutional change. These strategies will be distributed in a subsequent publication with hopes of implementation.
This event is organized by Lane Speidel (a Vox Populi member) under the umbrella of a Vox Populi initiative called Always Be Dismantling. ABD has been working on the task of examining and dismantling institutional oppression and prejudice present at Vox and the art world, working towards inclusivity, equity, and accessibility. This panel is the first of a projected series of discussions around the art labor unique to Philadelphia.
